EXCESSIVE HEAT IN THE SOUTHWEST

Dangerous heat will continue across the Desert Southwest today and tomorrow as a strong ridge of high pressure remains firmly established over the region. Afternoon temperatures will once again climb to 110°F or higher across much of Arizona, southern Nevada, and the desert regions of southeastern California.

Some of the hottest locations in California's deserts could approach 120°F, creating life-threatening conditions for anyone exposed to the heat for extended periods. These temperatures are well above seasonal averages and will place significant stress on people, pets, and infrastructure.

Residents and visitors planning outdoor activities should take extra precautions by staying well hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing, limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and seeking air-conditioned environments whenever possible. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly in these conditions, particularly for older adults, young children, and those working outdoors.

The excessive heat is expected to persist through at least tomorrow, with only limited relief anticipated. Until the upper-level ridge begins to weaken, dangerous heat will remain the primary weather concern across the Desert Southwest.
