STORMS FROM THE GREAT LAKES TO THE MID-ATLANTIC

Our storm map highlights an active severe weather pattern that will unfold from the Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic over the next several days as a strong cold front pushes southeast.

The first round of severe thunderstorms is expected on Saturday, with the greatest threat centered on Wisconsin and surrounding portions of the western Great Lakes. Thunderstorms developing in this region may produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, and a few tornadoes, particularly during the afternoon and evening. Wisconsin remains an area to watch closely after recent severe weather episodes.

By Sunday, the severe weather threat expands across much of the Great Lakes as additional disturbances move along the front. Thunderstorms are expected to organize into multiple lines and clusters, increasing the potential for widespread damaging straight-line winds. Large hail and isolated tornadoes will also be possible, especially with any storms that remain discrete before merging into larger complexes.

On Monday, the cold front is forecast to reach the Mid-Atlantic, bringing another round of strong to severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds are expected to be the primary hazard, although hail, locally heavy rainfall, and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

This represents another active stretch in what has been a persistently stormy pattern across the northern tier and eastern United States. Residents from the Great Lakes through the Mid-Atlantic should monitor forecasts closely through the weekend, as the exact timing and location of the strongest storms will become clearer over the next couple of days.
