Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop today across portions of the northern Rockies, while another area of severe weather is forecast across central Texas. The strongest storms in Texas may produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, torrential rainfall, and an isolated tornado. The threat follows overnight thunderstorm activity that prompted tornado warnings near the Big Bend region, indicating that the atmosphere remains favorable for additional severe storms today.

Across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, scattered thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening. While many of these storms will be below severe limits, some could become locally strong with gusty winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.

The North American monsoon will also remain active across the Southwest, producing another round of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. These storms may generate strong outflow winds, localized flash flooding, and dangerous lightning, especially across mountainous terrain and desert washes.

Looking ahead, a more organized severe weather event is expected on Saturday as a strong cold front sweeps across the Great Lakes and eastern United States. Thunderstorms are expected to develop from southern Ontario southward through the Ohio Valley, Appalachians, and into portions of the Mid-Atlantic. Damaging winds will likely be the primary hazard, although large hail, isolated tornadoes, and locally heavy rainfall will also be possible with the strongest storms.

Overall, today's severe weather will be scattered across several regions, but attention will increasingly turn to Saturday, when a stronger frontal system is expected to produce a more widespread threat of severe thunderstorms from southern Canada into the eastern United States.
