EXTREME WEATHER OUTLOOK

Our storm map continues to highlight excessive heat across the Tennessee Valley, Southern Plains, and Texas. Temperatures will once again climb into the 90s, with some locations reaching the lower 100s. Heat index values will rise well into the triple digits, creating dangerous conditions for those spending extended periods outdoors.

As we've discussed, this persistent heat is becoming increasingly unusual for this time of year. Normal temperatures are declining quickly as we move deeper into September, meaning the departure from average is growing with each additional day of extreme warmth.

The heat is expected to continue for approximately another day before gradually breaking as a cold front pushes southward into the region this weekend. This front should bring some relief from the excessive temperatures, although the timing and strength of the cooler air will vary by location.

Until then, residents across the Tennessee Valley, Southern Plains, and Texas should continue taking precautions. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
