EXTREME WEATHER OUTLOOK

For our storm map today, we're watching a storm system coming through the Pacific Northwest that will eventually track into Western Canada this weekend. As that system moves eastward, it's going to tap into a fairly energetic atmosphere and set the stage for another round of severe weather across the northern Plains and Canadian Prairies.

The main area we're watching will be Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with the threat then extending southward into the Dakotas on Monday. This could become a fairly significant severe-weather event, with a lot of energy accompanying the storm system and a strong jet stream moving through the region.

When you combine that upper-level energy with instability and strong winds aloft, we're going to have to watch closely for large hail, damaging winds, and potentially tornadoes. Tornado activity is certainly something that could develop, particularly if supercells can form ahead of the main storm system.

So, for the Labor Day weekend, this is the extreme-weather event we're watching right now. The details will become clearer as we get closer, but the overall setup has enough ingredients to potentially produce a significant outbreak across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and eventually the northern United States.

It's definitely something we're going to keep a very close eye on over the next several days.
