EXTREME WEATHER OUTLOOK

The main storm we're watching today is Tropical Storm Edouard, which is moving toward the upper Texas coast. Landfall is expected this afternoon near the Texas-Louisiana border, with the greatest impacts extending across southeast Texas and into southwest Louisiana.

The big concern will be heavy rainfall. Rain will spread through Galveston, Houston, and inland across eastern Texas, with some of that moisture potentially reaching as far west as the Austin area. Current forecasts call for 3 to 6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts up to 9 inches, so flash flooding will be a significant concern, especially where thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas.

We'll also see gusty winds along the upper Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts as the storm comes ashore. Tropical-storm-force gusts are expected, with coastal gusts potentially reaching 40 to 50 mph or higher in stronger rainbands.

So today, the primary threats from Edouard will be heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and gusty winds, with the heaviest impacts likely concentrated along the upper Texas coast and eastward toward Louisiana.
