Severe Weather Discussion

The primary severe weather threat today will be across the Carolinas, where a cold front is expected to slow down and eventually stall. Scattered thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and evening, with the strongest storms capable of producing locally damaging wind gusts, hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rainfall.

Unlike yesterday's more organized severe weather event, today's storms are expected to be scattered rather than widespread, as the stronger storm system has already moved off the Atlantic Coast. While a few storms may briefly reach severe limits, a large-scale outbreak is not anticipated.

Another area of active weather will develop across the northern Plains, particularly over the Dakotas. Thunderstorms in this region may produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, locally heavy rainfall, and an isolated tornado. Storm coverage is expected to remain scattered, with the strongest storms developing during the afternoon and evening.

The thunderstorm activity will extend northward into southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where a few storms may also become severe with similar hazards of damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes.
