Severe Weather Discussion

We’re tracking the potential for severe weather and tornadoes today across the central Plains into parts of the upper Midwest. The main threat area extends from Kansas northward into Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota.

Thunderstorms developing in these areas may produce:

  • Large hail

  • Damaging winds

  • A few tornadoes

Additional severe thunderstorms are expected tomorrow across the central Plains into the Midwest, and once again there may be another corridor of tornado activity associated with the stronger storms.

By Tuesday, the storm system pushes eastward into the Ohio Valley, where thunderstorms are expected to produce mainly damaging winds and hail.

Bottom Line

  • Severe weather today Plains → upper Midwest

  • Tornado risk from KS to IA, MN, NE, and SD

  • Large hail and damaging winds likely

  • More severe storms tomorrow across the Plains and Midwest

  • Storms shift into the Ohio Valley Tuesday with wind and hail threats

Overall, this remains a multi-day severe weather pattern with repeated rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms moving eastward through midweek.
