SEVERE STORMS IN THE OHIO VALLEY

Updated by Henry Margusity

The primary severe weather threat today will be focused across the mid-Mississippi Valley into the central Ohio Valley. Thunderstorms developing in this region will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, hail, and torrential rainfall. The greatest concern will be heavy rain, which may lead to localized flash flooding where storms repeatedly move over the same areas. While an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, the overall tornado threat appears to be relatively low compared to the risks from damaging winds and flooding rainfall.

Farther west, another round of thunderstorms is expected to develop across the High Plains from Montana south through Wyoming and Colorado. Some of these storms will become supercells capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes during the afternoon and evening hours.

The severe weather threat will also extend into the Canadian Prairies on Saturday. Portions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba may experience strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. The threat could continue into Sunday as the storm system tracks eastward across southern Canada.

Overall, the active weather pattern continues across the central part of North America, with severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall remaining the primary hazards through the weekend.
