TORNADOES AND FLASH FLOODING

Updated by Henry Margusity

Flash flooding concerns will continue across eastern Texas and portions of the Gulf Coast as a tropical disturbance slowly organizes over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Whether or not the system develops into a tropical depression, it will continue to draw deep tropical moisture into the region and produce periods of heavy rainfall through tomorrow.

Repeated rounds of thunderstorms may lead to additional flooding problems, especially in areas that have already received significant rainfall. Localized flash flooding, flooded roadways, and rapid rises on small streams and creeks will remain concerns across parts of Texas and the western Gulf Coast.

Farther north, attention will turn to a developing severe weather threat across the Midwest and Ohio Valley tomorrow. A fast-moving disturbance dropping through the Great Lakes will interact with warm and humid air to produce thunderstorms from Illinois eastward through Indiana and Ohio.

The strongest storms may be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. While severe weather will be possible throughout the region, the greatest concern will be any storms that can develop ahead of the main line, where rotating thunderstorms could increase the tornado threat. Overall, flooding along the Gulf Coast and severe weather in the Ohio Valley will be the primary weather stories over the next 24 to 48 hours.
