FLASH FLOODING
Updated by Henry Margusity
Gulf Coast Tropical Update
The weak tropical system located just off the Texas coast near Corpus Christi will continue moving slowly northward along the coastline over the next couple of days.
While the system may struggle to strengthen significantly, it will interact with a cold front approaching from the north, leading to a substantial increase in rainfall across eastern Texas and much of the western and central Gulf Coast.
The primary concern will be excessive rainfall and flooding. Many locations could receive 4 to 8 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible where rain bands repeatedly move over the same areas. This could result in significant flooding, especially in urban and low-lying locations.
Gusty winds and rough coastal conditions will also accompany the system, but the flooding threat is expected to be the dominant hazard.
By Wednesday, the system should become absorbed into the advancing cold front and lose any remaining tropical characteristics. As a result, tropical impacts are expected to diminish, although flooding concerns may linger even after the heaviest rain ends.
Residents from eastern Texas eastward along the Gulf Coast should closely monitor forecasts and be prepared for potentially significant flooding over the next two to three days.
