STORMS WITH STRONG WINDS!
Updated by Henry Margusity
Storm Snowfall Map 1Weather Discussion
We’re tracking the potential for severe weather across the Mid-Atlantic today, where thunderstorms may become strong to severe during the afternoon and evening hours. The main threats will be damaging wind gusts, hail, and torrential downpours. While the tornado risk remains fairly low, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out with the strongest storms.
At the same time, a broader area of heavy rain will extend from Ohio across West Virginia and south through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and into Tennessee. Thunderstorms in this corridor will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall, with 1 to 2 inches falling in a short amount of time.
That could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, especially where thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same locations. Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly in heavier downpours with reduced visibility and water on roadways.
Overall, it will be another active weather day from the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic into the Deep South, with a combination of severe storms and flooding concerns continuing through tonight.
