SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK INTO NEXT WEEK
Updated by Henry Margusity
Storm Snowfall Map 1Weather Decision Solutions – Severe Weather Discussion
Meteorologists at Weather Decision Solutions are monitoring gusty thunderstorms today across the Plains into western Texas. Some storms may become severe, producing:
Large hail
Strong wind gusts
Brief heavy rainfall
The bigger concern develops through the weekend into early next week as a much broader area of severe weather expands across the central Plains and into the Midwest.
The highest severe weather risk appears to extend from:
Kansas
Nebraska
Iowa
As a cold front pushes eastward into the Plains, warm and unstable air ahead of the boundary will support:
Tornado potential
Large hail
Damaging winds
Repeated rounds of thunderstorms
At the same time, colder air wrapping into the western side of the system may even bring another round of late-season snow to parts of the Front Range, possibly extending into areas near Denver.
Bottom Line
Severe storms today Plains → western Texas
Main threats: hail and strong winds
Major severe weather outbreak possible this weekend into next week
Tornado threat increases from KS → NE → IA
Late-season snow possible again near the Rockies and Denver
Overall, this is shaping up to be a very active and stormy pattern across the central United States, with both severe weather and late-season cold weather impacts occurring simultaneously.
