FLASH FLOODING
Updated by Henry Margusity

On today's storm map, the biggest concern will be flooding across portions of the Midwest into the western Ohio Valley. A persistent band of thunderstorms is already producing heavy rainfall across the region, following another round of significant rain yesterday.
Additional thunderstorms will continue to move through today, and some areas could receive several inches of additional rainfall. With soils already saturated and waterways running high, even another inch or two of rain could result in serious flooding.
The greatest concern will be for flash flooding, particularly where thunderstorms repeatedly track over the same locations. Rapid rises on streams and creeks are possible, and some low-lying and urban areas could experience dangerous flooding with little warning.
Unfortunately, this flooding threat is not expected to end immediately. The broader thunderstorm pattern remains active, and additional convective clusters could continue affecting the Midwest and Ohio Valley into next week. That means some areas may experience repeated rounds of heavy rainfall, making it increasingly difficult for water levels to recover between events.
Overall, flooding will be the dominant concern today, with the combination of saturated ground, elevated waterways, and additional heavy thunderstorms creating the potential for significant flash flooding across parts of the Midwest and western Ohio Valley.
