Daily Storm Report for May 10, 2026

A dated forecast discussion from the WDS ops desk.

SEVERE STORMS IN TEXAS

Updated by Henry Margusity

Weather Discussion

An active storm track today will bring a significant severe weather threat across parts of Texas and into portions of the lower Mississippi Valley on this Mother’s Day.

The greatest threat for the most intense storms will stretch from the Dallas–Fort Worth area southward through San Antonio and eastward toward Shreveport, Louisiana, with severe weather potential extending as far north as Little Rock, Arkansas. Thunderstorms in these areas could produce damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes, some of which could become strong.

In addition to the severe weather threat, heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding concerns, especially across the Texas Hill Country and areas around Austin where repeated thunderstorms could produce torrential downpours.

These storms will gradually push southward and eastward through tonight and into tomorrow, bringing the threat for additional gusty thunderstorms across parts of the Southeast by Monday afternoon before the system finally begins to move offshore.

Meanwhile, much colder air is dropping into the Northeast behind the departing system. Frost and freeze conditions remain likely Tuesday morning across portions of the region, which could cause damage to sensitive plants and unprotected gardens. Anyone with early-season vegetation should take precautions before the colder temperatures arrive.

After the chilly start to the week, a much milder pattern is expected to develop with temperatures trending warmer later in the week.
