Severe Storms Possible Friday and Saturday

The cold front currently across the Ohio Valley will produce more thunderstorms today. Some of the storms could be severe from Pennsylvania to Missouri. I think SPC will upgrade the risk area by Saturday morning to a slight risk of severe storms.

Low pressure will develop along the front Saturday. That wave of low pressure will enhance thunderstorms along the cold front from New York to the Carolina’s Saturday afternoon and evening. We could see severe storms including damaging winds and a few tornadoes across that area. The Appalachians seem to be especially primed for severe storms late in the afternoon.

The soundings this morning show some good shear in the Appalachians which could support tornadoes and or large hail Saturday. The storms will move quickly into the Mid-Atlantic, New England and Carolina’s Saturday evening. I think by Saturday evening, the storms will form into a squall line with damaging winds.
